Over time, this has evolved into the "you can do it all" narrative - a message that empowered women BUT also demanded they take on endless roles and responsibilities. In addition, many women grew up developing complex survival strategies rooted in their environments - learning early on to keep the peace and seek approval from family, friends, and colleagues just to feel safe and valued.
Through one or both of these avenues, a painful common thread emerged. It highlighted women who are exhausted, anxious, burned out, resentful, and / or overwhelmed.
This thread of people pleasing keeps women from setting boundaries, practicing true self care, avoiding conflict, and trapped in the cycle of maintaining responsibility for everyone else's happiness - an impossible feat. It is taking a massive toll on women's health, peace of mind, and relationships.
